This course examined the community context of crime, focusing on where crime occurs and why certain areas have more crime than others. Students learned about the important historical roots of the field, as well as the core theoretical frameworks that guide research on the communities and crime relationship. We discussed the relationship between neighborhood crime and (1) inequality, (2) poverty, (3) immigration, and (4) neighborhood change.
